Registration Information

Financial Aid

Essex Rowing relies on its program costs to meet its operating expenses. However we are also committed to making our programs available to every member of the community and as such Essex Rowing maintains a comprehensive financial aid program. This program is designed to ensure that all athletes may participate regardless of their ability to cover the cost of their involvement and is available to both youth and adult participants. If you believe you qualify, contact the head coach by phone or email us at financialaid@essexrowing.org to apply for the reduction or elimination of your program cost.

Swim Test

All rowers and coxswains will be expected to demonstrate swimming proficiency prior to getting on the water. This will include 10 minutes of treading water, a 200m swim, and the ability to put on a lifejacket while in the water. A form will be provided to you upon registration. The swim test can be observed and the form signed by any certified lifeguard. Winter participants will not be required to pass a swim test.

Cancellations made on the day of or following the start of the program and no-shows will forfeit entire registration fee.

Attendance

Participants are expected to attend all practices if possible. However, we expecte there will be instances where attendance is not possible, especially in the summer when athletes are in and out of town for vacation. In that case, athletes are responsible for notifing their coach well in advance if they cannot attend a session. Rowing is a team sport and boats are for two, four, and eight-person crews plus one coxswain. The unexpected absence of one may prohibit the ability of others to practice as planned. With this in mind, individuals that habitually miss team practices without advance notification will be expelled from the team without any refund of dues.
