Youth Introductory/Novice Indoor Rowing

FOR ATHLETES WITH LITTLE OR NO EXPERIENCE

The winter is an invaluable time for rowers to fine tune general skills and focus on developing a strong physical foundation for future competition (including indoor races such as Boston's own C.R.A.S.H.-B Sprints). For novice athletes in particular, it affords them with the opportunity to get a head start in skill development leading into the spring.

The Essex novice squad is one of the premier programs in the northeast (and perennially top 3 in Massachusetts) for new rowers to become involved with the competitive side of the sport. The novice program is for athletes that are within their first year of rowing or coxing and uses an intensive and methodical approach to the technical and physical development of athletes so that they may learn to move a rowing shell quickly and effectively. As athletes reach the appropriate skill level, they will begin to compete against novice athletes from other local and regional teams.

For athletes trying the sport for the first time, tuition for the season will be waived. Athletes are still responsible for covering expenses related to competition and for uniforms and will be expected to actively participate in all Essex fundraisers.
