The practice schedules below reflect our best projections for the Spring season, and are based on several years of optimization. In spite of that, the scheduled may need to be adjusted to accomodate weather, access to coaches and/or equipment, or to optimize the composition of training groups. These changes may include weekly practice frequency, practice time/or duration, and the shortening or lengthening of a season. Should the need for any adjustments become apparent, we will notify families ahead of time and work with you as needed to make the transition.

Youth Novice Competitive Rowing and Coxing

FOR NEW ROWERS OR ROWERS IN THEIR FIRST SCHOLASTIC YEAR OF COMPETITION

The Essex novice squad is one of the premier programs in the northeast (and perennially top 3 in Massachusetts) for new rowers to become involved with competitive side of the sport. The novice program is for athletes that are within their first year of rowing or coxing and uses an intensive and methodical approach to the technical and physical development of athletes so that they may learn to move a rowing shell quickly and effectively. As athletes reach the appropriate skill level, they will begin to compete against novice athletes from other local and regional teams. The competitive season culminates in a northeast district championship which includes teams from across 7 states.
