Spring 2010

Adult Introductory Indoor Rowing

NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY

The Introductory (or Learn to Row) program is designed to provide individuals that have had little or no exposure to the sport (as well as those that have been away from it for an extended period) a comprehensive introduction to the skills they will need to become competent at propelling a rowing shell. An introductory option is available in the early spring only and training will remain indoors to prepare athletes for a comfortable transition to the water in April. Training will utilize indoor rowing machines and indoor rowing tanks and focus on general aerobic fitness and the development of a solid technical foundation. Following the Introductory program, participants will have the option of pursuing the sport with Essex Rowing in either a recreational or competitive capacity along with other rowers of comparable skill level and interest.

Adult Novice/Recreational Rowing

MINIMUM 3 MONTHS EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE FROM A COACH REQUIRED

This session is for athletes that have moved beyond the introductory level and wish to further develop their skills as well as those who are competent in a rowing shell but are not interested in competitive rowing. Training will remain indoors for the early part of the season before moving onto the water as weather permits. The recreational program is for experienced, competitive rowers that wish to participate in local competitions but cannot committ to the Masters' team training schedule.

Masters Rowing

BY INVITATION ONLY

For athletes committed to competing at a regional level and beyond, the competitive training groups requires a minimum committment of 6 sessions per week and consistent attendence at team practices. This group moves through an annual training cycle each season focused on maximizing competitive potential for the summer and fall seasons. Training for these crews will focus on fine tuning the skills and physical attributes needed to perform well in the competitive arena. Spring rowing will be characterized by a shift from indoor training to on-the-water rowing, focusing on the transfer technical changes developed over the winter to application in the boat. Physical training will make a shift toward high end aerobic output and later, a transition to pre-competitive, anaerobic conditioning. Athletes interested in joining the competitive team should contact the appropriate coach for more information.
